Our Mission:

STEMuses thrives to encourage young girls to pursue their interests in STEM careers. We understand that a lot of girls, especially in middle school, tend to lose their interest in STEM because of the societal expectations that the field is better suited for men. STEMuses strives to connect these girls with successful female professionals that are real life examples for the students and and can demonstrate that women can be successful in careers in science, technology, engineering, and math.

About Our Founder

Alyssa Anderson is currently a sophomore at Yale University studying Mechanical Engineering. She is involved in many campus extracurriculars such as serving as Academic Excellence Chair on the Region 1 Board for the National Society of Black Engineers, Treasurer for Yale Undergraduate Research Association, and member of Yale’s varsity track and field team.

She has conducted individual research on biomimicry in architecture as well as a literature review on perovskite solar cells and LEDs. Currently, she is working at Rice University for a summer internship in biomedical engineering. In high school, she was a long-standing member of both Jack and Jill and Girl Scouts where she received her Girl Scout Gold Award in her junior year. In her time away from structured activities, she loves to try new recipes, draw, shop with friends, and travel with her family.

Growing up, Alyssa knew that there was a lack of women in STEM, but after she personally saw her middle school friends who were once interested in STEM move away from these topics, she knew she wanted to do something to help. In her sophomore year of high school, she decided to create STEMuses to help bridge this gap and provide middle school girls with resources and opportunities to learn about STEM and see women in STEM not just existing but excelling!

Only 9% of girls aged 13-17 express interest in STEM careers, but STEMuses is here to change that!
